A FOUR-WEEK COURSE, WEDNESDAYS, FEBRUARY 12, 19, 26 AND MARCH 5

This course is aimed at those who have considerable experience already with using the Internet for genealogy, but who are interested in learning how to fine tune their search abilities and how to take advantage of the social networking opportunities the Internet provides. The course is hands-on and will cover: how to take full advantage of Google (the new Google Maps, Google MyLibrary, Google Blog Search and Blogger, etc.); what other search engines are out there; the “hidden” Internet (including free databases); the new faceted library catalogues; Boolean searching; blogs, podcasts, and wikis; photo-sharing sites; and how to keep up-to-date with developments online.

Instructor: Marian Press
Marian Press, MLS, MA, is a retired academic librarian. She has taught about the Internet and Genealogy for the Professional Learning Centre at the Faculty of Information Studies, University of Toronto, the National Institute for Genealogical Studies, the Ontario Library Association and the Ontario Genealogical Society. She has been doing her own genealogical research for 31 years and is a frequent speaker at genealogical conferences. She is a regular contributor to Internet Genealogy and Family Chronicle and recently published Education and Ontario Family History: A Guide to the resources for genealogists and historians (OGS and Dundurn, 2011).
