A FOUR-WEEK COURSE STARTING THURSDAY NOVEMBER 6 AND CONTINUING ON THE FOLLOWING THREE WEDNESDAYS, NOVEMBER 12, 19 AND 26
This course is now fully subscribed.
This 4-week course, designed for intermediate and advanced-level genealogists, explores sophisticated ways in which maps and mapping tools can contribute to family history research, analysis and writing, and demonstrates that the current generation of genealogists has no need to feel limited to availing themselves of static maps created by others.
We start with a brief introduction to some terrific (and perhaps little-known or under-appreciated) resources in local libraries and archives, and then discuss a new generation of remarkable online sites demonstrating or permitting the integration of maps and other data. The major part of the course considers how a variety of mapping and other tools can be used creatively and effectively in genealogical projects, enabling the user to create unique maps and plans, tailored to the needs of the compiler and incorporating data derived from different sources. Resources and examples used in the course will be drawn from different jurisdictions, and the principles and techniques described will be independent of geography.
