An organization of family historians, some with Toronto roots, others who live in Toronto, we have ancestors around the world.

April 2024 meeting — In person and online

April’s Toronto Branch meeting took place on Monday, April 22.

A good crowd joined us in person at Lansing United Church at 49 Bogert Ave in north Toronto, near the Sheppard subway station, and many more watched the presentation live online via Zoom.

Our featured speaker Allison Lau and her team demonstrated how Ancestry.com is using technology to help decipher handwriting and make it easier for researchers to find their ancestors—or the cheerful characters pictured—in the 1931 Census of Canada, in her presentation Leveraging Handwriting Recognition Technology in Genealogy.

For our “opening act”—Branch member Marian Press joined us in person at Lansing to tell us about the magic that can happen When Family Treasures Turn Out to be Genealogical Road Signs.

The presentations were recorded and are now available to view until about May 28. Click here to visit the recordings page.

And watch our Calendar for information about Branch events coming up in the months ahead.
