When it comes time to write the stories of your ancestors’ lives, whether you want to write a blog post or a book, you are going to want more than names, places and dates. These lists of facts make for boring reading. This lecture will reveal Janice’s secret (no longer) method to uncovering hidden episodes of our ancestors’ lives that bring their stories to life. Four dramatic examples drawn from her own family history illustrate the power of conflict to drive your ancestors’ stories. Come learn how to uncover your ancestors’ inner conflicts, conflicts with other people, conflicts with the natural world and conflicts with society, to tell better family history stories.

Speaker: Professional genealogist Janice Nickerson loves a good challenge whether it’s identifying elusive ancestors, tracking disappearing descendants or telling richer family stories. Her specialties include early Ontario research, criminal justice records and using genealogy gifts and games to create a legacy. Janice is a proud 8th-generation Canadian, with English, German, Irish, Welsh and First Nations ancestry. Her company website is UpperCanadaGenealogy.com

OPENING ACT: Patricia Blackstock will present “In Search of Irish Ancestors”.

This will be a hybrid presentation. No need to register if you are attending in person. To attend online, click here to register and get your unique Zoom link.
