June 2020 Lecture Series – online

Registration is now open for the new Toronto Branch Ontario Research Lecture Series!

Over the course of four evenings in June 2020, four expert researchers will guide you through specialized records and research processes—all online.

The first session is free to everyone. The fee for each subsequent session is just $10, or $8 if you are a member of the Ontario Genealogical Society. Pick the sessions that suit your interests… Or take advantage of our Full Series package price and get full access to all four lectures for only $25, or $20 if you are an OGS member.

Here’s a quick look at what we have lined up:

  • Tuesday June 16—Archives of Ontario: What’s in it for me?
    Instructor: Jane E. MacNamara
Learn how the AO’s records are organized and “described”, and pick up insider tips on how to get the most from the AO’s Archive Descriptive Database.
  • Wednesday June 17—Loyal Then, Loyal Now
    Instructor: Linda Corupe
Find out about the three major groups of United Empire Loyalists, their settlement in Upper Canada, and how to go about proving UEL descent.
  • Tuesday June 23—Getting Land from the Canada Company and King’s College
    Instructor: Ruth Burkholder
Learn how the Canada Company and King’s College came into being in the early 19th century, and why land and land use are key to their history.
  • Wednesday June 24—Tracing 20th Century Ontarians
    Instructor: Janice Nickerson
Discover strategies to peek behind the “closed” curtains of 20th century Ontario records to trace recent ancestors and relatives.

All sessions begin at 7:30 p.m. (Eastern Daylight Time) and will include an hour-long presentation and an opportunity to ask questions.
