The first Toronto Branch meeting after the summer break took place on Monday September 23.
We were delighted to launch the fall season with an information-packed presentation by lawyer, journalist and genealogist Drew von Hasselbach titled Money Talks: Translating Value Over Time. In 1837, Drew’s great-great-granduncle bought a property in Ontario for 17 pounds and 10 shillings. But was it a good deal? How much would he have paid in today’s money? Drew showed us how to figure that out.
The meeting was just one week before Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30. In recognition of the legacy of the residential school system, our “opening act”, presented by Beth Adams, featured excerpts from the writings of Phyllis Webstad, the author and activist who inspired what is still widely known as Orange Shirt Day.
The presentations were recorded and are now available to view until October 29. Click here to access the recordings.
