The Toronto History Lecture for 2022

Toronto Branch was delighted to present the eleventh annual Toronto History Lecture via Zoom on Wednesday August 3rd, at 7:30 p.m. EDT.

This year’s speaker was award-winning author and storyteller Adam Bunch, known for bringing the history of Toronto and Canada to life.

In the 2022 Lecture, Adam recounted the tale of the strangest riot ever to take place on Toronto streets. A brawl at a brothel, pitting a group of circus clowns against a crew of firefighters, led to a bloody clash that shook the city to its core in the summer of 1855—in The Toronto Circus Riot: A True Tale of Sex, Violence, Corruption and Clowns.
