2015 Toronto History Lecture

The fifth annual Toronto History Lecture will take place on Wednesday 5 August at the City of Toronto Archives.

Photonegative of City of Toronto memorial to returning soldiers

“Memorial to returning soldiers” (January 1919), City of Toronto Archives, Fonds 200, Series 372, Subseries 41, Item 66

As we mark the four-year centenary of the First World War, it is fitting that the topic of the 2015 Lecture is Returned Men: Toronto’s Veterans in the Great War’s Aftermath. Historian Jonathan Scotland will examine the consequences, aftermath, and impact of the War and how Toronto’s “returned men” tried to reintegrate into civilian life.

The 2015 Toronto History Lecture is dedicated to the memory of Mary Garrett, who passed away in May of 2015. Mary was a long-time active member of the Ontario Genealogical Society, and the first editor of the Toronto Branch newsletter Toronto Tree, from 1968 to 1976.

This event is free to attend but registration is required and space is limited.
