Tired, inspired, and very grateful

Just over a week ago we were in the midst of OGS Conference 2016 with some 720+ weekend guests, closer to 800 with speakers and exhibitors. It was a whirlwind for the volunteer committee, the culmination of a couple of years of planning and preparation—and maybe a little dreaming, too.

We are so grateful to those guests who came with us to take genealogy “to the cutting edge” like the enthusiastic attendees from Sudbury (pictured below) who made very good use of the Conference App. They are a few of the 20 Sudbury Branch members who made the trek to Toronto—proving that there’s still a role for gatherings that bring genealogists face to face.

Conference attendees from Sudbury

Thanks to the terrific speakers who brought their expertise, the exhibitors who brought their tools and local knowledge, and the sponsors and partners who put us on a sound financial footing and helped us add some bells and whistles.

After a short, but much needed rest, we’ll be tidying up the finances, and analyzing the effectiveness of various activities. We’ve invited all attendees to provide input with a painless online evaluation. (Check your inbox for the link.)

Then we’ll pass the torch to next year’s hosts—Ottawa Branch. Watch for news of that event—which also celebrates Canada’s sesquicentennial—coming soon.
